“To Miss Sharon Cuneta, you are an iconic actress, with or without that FAMAS award.”
Sharon Cuneta revealed to Boy Abunda that she was a “little offended” because FAMAS failed to name her among the Iconic Movie Queens of Philippine Cinema.
The 63rd FAMAS awards gave out trophies for the first time for Iconic Movie Queens. The awardees included Nora Aunor, Sarah Geronimo, Susan Roces, Gloria Romero, Maricel Soriano, and Dawn Zulueta.
Sharon aired her feelings on the matter on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” last October 2nd.
Sharon said, “Buti pa si Ate Guy, naalala niya. Parang kasi it was icons and queens, and I felt… a little offended because…You know, we were a few, just a few of us who ruled the 80’s and 90’s.”
Popularly known as the country’s Megastar, Sharon made a total of 53 films to date. Most of those films were done during the 80’s and 90’s and majority were box-office hits.
In her acceptance speech, Superstar Nora Aunor cited the contribution of Sharon Cuneta to the Philippine showbiz industry. She said,
“Gusto ko ring hatiin ang karangalang ito sa apat na tao po na sana po ay makita rin natin sa entablado. Unang-una na po ay si Ms. Sharon Cuneta, dekada 80. Hind natin matatawaran ang kaniyang mga ginawa noong Dekada 80. At syempre po sa Dekada, itong year 2000 si Bea Alonzo at si Marian Rivera.
That speech by Nora Aunor was unexpected, according to Sharon. She said, “if one of the best actresses, like I said, in the country and in the world says this about you and shows people and shows you how much she respects what you have contributed, you know what, wala nang hihigit pa na honor kasi si Ms. Nora Aunor siya.”
Sharon closed the issue by thanking Nora Aunor.
