Star Wars: The Force Awakens breaks box-office records

According to Box Office Mojo, the latest Star Wars installment also snatched the record for the Fastest $100 million gross receipts.

Jurassic World achieved $100 million box-office receipts in two days while Star Wars: The Force Awakens did it in just one day.

At its current pace, industry observers are predicting that it will break another record this weekend as more screens are being added to keep up with the demand.

The record for the highest opening weekend is being held by Jurassic World, which raked in a total of $208.8 million for its opening weekend in June this year.

Analysts say that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will break that easily, with estimates ranging from $225 to $240 million total take in the US and Canada for a new record for Highest Domestic Opening Weekend.

‘Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens’ movie is a blockbuster hit

The 7th installment in the Star Wars franchise was produced by Disney for more than $200 million.

But judging from the enthusiasm of its loyal base of fans and from the good reviews that it is getting not only from critics but from moviegoers, Disney would make a killing with this film.

It has the potential to overtake the six-year-old record held by Avatar as the top-grossing film of all time with almost $2.79 billion in total lifetime grosses.

With just one installment, Disney may be able to recoup its investment when it bought Lucasfilm for $4 billion, three years ago.

George Lucas was the owner of Lucasfilms. He is the original creator of the Star Wars series.

So far, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has already earned $250M worldwide.

Disney can just sit back and relax and watch the gross receipts balloon into the billions in the next few weeks.
