Alden Richards had a low-key but very heartwarming 24th birthday celebration during Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye on January 2nd.
The three Lolas and Yaya Dub (Maine Mendoza) came over to EB Broadway to greet him on his big day.
Yaya Dub sang “The Closer I Get to You” in her own voice, giving the Roberta Flack classic a new, modern twist.
Just about right for the Yaya Dub that everybody loves in Kalyeserye.
At the end of the song, the AlDub love team had another almost kiss, their lips separated only by the microphone that Yaya Dub used for singing.
Alden kissed the back of her hand afterwards.
Aside from her song, Yaya Dub also baked a special Mainebow cake for Alden’s birthday.
In a video which showed how she prepared the cake, she said that she never baked a cake for her parents nor siblings, neighbors, and even her ex-boyfriend.
She only baked the cake for Pambansang Bae’s special day.
While a brief shot of Yaya Dub and Alden watching the video was shown live on TV, it was what happened behind the scenes that created a buzz among AlDub fans.
Yaya Dub was standing near Lola Nidora (Wally Bayola) and Lola Tidora (Paolo Ballesteros) while Alden was sitting on a chair as the four of them watched Yaya Dub’s video.
Just after Yaya Dub finished saying that she never baked a cake for anybody but Alden, the Pambansang Bae reached out to Maine and hugged her tightly by the waistline.

The audience couldn’t help but scream wildly at Alden’s display of affection.
Well, who could blame them?
Alden was very sweet and though Maine was obviously half embarrassed and half amused at what she said on the video, her happiness for Alden’s 24th birthday was apparent.
Yaya Dub’s gifts didn’t end with the cake, though.
She also gave him a personal letter, enclosed in a gift-wrapped frying pan.
All in all, Alden’s celebration was not really grand, but it was cosy and intimate as can be, even with a studio filled with Dabarkads.
He cried as he dedicated his work to his mother, a few minutes after his father sang and had a duet with him.
