Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez crowned as Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 held in Bolivia.
Actress Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez, age 25, wins the Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 pageant held in Sta. Cruz, Bolivia.
Her victory is one for the books since Winwyn is the first Filipina and Asian beauty to win the contest, which started way back 1991.
The Reina Hispanoamericana pageant celebrates Hispanic heritage, language, and culture. Thus, candidates come from countries with Spanish cultural influence.
Laura Lehmann wins the title of Miss World Philippines 2017.
For this year, candidates from Australia, Canada, and the Philippines participated in the competition for the first time.
Winwyn won from among 27 contestants and her spot-on, intelligent answer in English was well-applauded long before she completed it.
Asked how she would promote Hispanic-American culture “with the great difficulty or barrier of language”, Winwyn Marquez gave an answer that would impress even a Miss Universe panel of judges.
Before answering the question, Winwyn Marquez flashed a perfect smile and greeted the audience in Spanish in two sentences. But that was all the Spanish she spoke during the Q & A.
While the rest of the Top 10 candidates answered in fluent Spanish, Winwyn answered in English.
Here’s Winwyn Marquez’s winning answer:
“Language can be learned, but the will and determination to contribute something to the organization cannot. It has to come from the heart and it has to be natural. I believe that kindness is a universal language that if you treat people with tolerance, patience and love, you will understand each other.”
“The Hispanic culture is not about language only. It’s about love for God, love for country, love for history and culture, and love for family. And as a Filipina with a unique heritage, I have instilled that.”
“I am ready to promote the Hispanic culture, not just in Asia but in the whole world. It is time to celebrate the Hispanic culture. It is meant to be celebrated.”
Winwyn’s answer was punctuated by wild cheers from the audience, something which did not happen with the other top 10 finalists.
The 5’2” Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 winner was one of the favorites in the pageant, even before the grand coronation night.
She won various special awards during the pre-pageant such as Miss Ipanema at the second Gala de la Belleza (Gala of Beauty), and first runner up in the Miss Personality competition. She was also a finalist in the Miss Silhouette and Best Smile categories of the Reina Hispanoamericana 2017. Winwyn also landed in the top 3 of the traditional costume category, according to her training camp, Aces and Queens.
Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez was crowned by Reina Hispanoamericana 2016 winner, Maria Camila Soleibe of Colombia. She edged out Akisha Albert of Curazao, who placed second with the title Virreina Hispanoamericana. Runners- up include Miss Brazil (1st), Miss Venezuela (2nd), Miss Mexico (3rd), and Miss Bolivia.
Less than 24 hours before Winwyn emerged as the Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 winner, fellow Filipina beauty contender, Karen Ibasco, won as Miss Earth 2017. The latter pageant was held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila on Saturday, November 4.
“Winwyn” Marquez is the daughter of actor-politicians Joey Marquez and Alma Moreno. Her aunt is former beauty queen herself, Miss International 1979, Melanie Marquez.
She is currently in a relationship with actor Mark Herras, whose Instagram account shows just how proud he is of his girlfriend.
A few hours after Winwyn was crowned as Reina Hispanoamericana 2017, Mark posted a picture of Winwyn with the following message: angelosantosherras OMG!!! Salamat lord!!! Ga!! Wala ako masabi!
