Maine Mendoza met with Vic Sotto and Coco Martin, her co-stars and producers of the MMFF entry titled “Jack Em Popoy: The PulisCredibles” on Saturday, July 28 at the story and press conference held at Novotel Manila Araneta Center.
In a video posted by Mj Marfori of TV 5, Vic Sotto explained that Coco Martin will play the role of Jack while he will be Popoy. Maine Mendoza cheerfuly stated that she would be “Emily”, the “Em” in the movie title.
The MMFF entry of Vic, Coco and Maine used to be titled as “Popoy en Jack: The PulisCredibles”, back when the participation of Maine Mendoza was still unclear.
Asked how he felt about the film’s story, Vic Sotto was mum about the details. He said the plot has a lot of secrets, twists which they cannot divulge just yet.
He assured however that the film would be a “very entertaining, heartwarming family movie”.
How “Jack Em Popoy” started
Vic revealed that he and Coco had talked about doing a project a few years back. But it did not push through.
Coco Martin said he initially contacted “Mr.T” (referring to Antonio “Tony” Tuviera,President and CEO of APT Entertainment and TAPE Inc.), so he can talk to “Bossing” Vic Sotto.
The “Ang Probinsyano” star said that it has been his dream to work with Vic Sotto ever since.
Coco Martin said he presented a preliminary concept for the project to Mr. Tuviera. After deliberating about the movie, Tuviera then asked Vic Sotto if he likes the project.
From thereon, the three producers have collaborated to develop the movie concept into something that would entertain and offer something new to the moviegoers.
Coco Martin remarked about how big the movie cast is. He said, “…parang dalawang mundong pinagsama” (like two worlds were combined),those of “Eat Bulaga” and “Ang Probinsyano”.
Members of the cast include veterans Ronaldo Valdez, Tirso Cruz III, and Cherry Pie Picache. Upcoming character actors Ryzza Cenon and Arjo Atayde are also included.
Sure to boost the comedic part of the film are “Eat Bulaga” hosts and comedians, Jose Manalo, Wally Bayola and Paolo Ballesteros, who are more commonly known as JoWaPao.
Child stars Baste and Ryza Mae Dizon, also from “Eat Bulaga”, complete the ensemble.
Preparations for the film
Vic jokingly said that he’s “back to the gym”. But on a serious note, he said that one has to be fit to make such a film. He is familiar with physical preparations and stunts since he has done action films before, like his “Enteng Kabisote” franchise.
Maine said it’s her first time to make an action film. She already had firing lessons and is working out “sa panaginip” (in her dreams). But she plans to start working out for real, soon.
The Breakout Star of Eat Bulaga’s “Kalyeserye” told the press that though it was her first time to try such shooting lessons, she quite enjoyed the experience.
And how well did she do at target practice? Maine said “Ay malapit! Me picture ako, malapit. Malapit dun sa target.”( Well it’s near. I have a picture, it’s close to the target.)
Coco-Maine love team?
The most controversial, and probably most sensitive question thrown at the lead actors of “Jack Em Popoy” is whether Coco Martin and Maine Mendoza will be the love team in the film.
As everyone in the Philippine showbiz industry knows, Maine Mendoza is paired off with Alden Richards, in a phenomenal love team commonly known as AlDub.
Their fans are not quite pleased when either of them are partnered with somebody else.
Thus, when Coco Martin was asked,”Magka love team ba kayo ni Maine dito?” (Are you and Maine a love team in this film?), he laughed a bit and bent down his head. He stayed quiet for a few seconds, obviously knowing how strong the AlDub following still is.
Maine chuckled but did not answer immediately. Vic Sotto replied “secret” as Coco laughed out loud.
Eventually, Maine answered safely, “Abangan na lang sa Pasko”. (Just wait/watch on Christmas).
A question that elicited a lot of reaction from actor-producers Vic and Coco, was how much the budget of “Jack Em Popoy: The PulisCredibles” is.
Vic said it’s a “secret”, but it definitely is multi-million, considering that Coco Martin and Maine Mendoza star in the film.
He agreed with a reporter who said that “Jack Em Popoy: The PulisCredibles” might just be the “biggest film” in the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival. Vic said, “I would like to suppose it is.”
“Jack Em Popoy: The PulisCredibles” is produced by Vic Sotto (M-Zet Productions), Coco Martin (CCM Film Productions), and Antonio Tuviera (APT Entertainment).
The action-comedy film will be directed by Coco Martin himself, under his real name Rodel Nacianceno. It is one of the first four official entries to the Metro Manila Film Festival 2018 and is slated for showing this December.
