The initial story of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ is about two best friends and roommates who are awkward scientific geniuses (physicists), man-child Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons) and Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki).

They also have their apartment neighbor, Penny (Kaley Cuoco), a Cheesecake Factory waitress who has great social skills.

Trivia: Penny’s last name has remained a mystery.

Sheldon and Leonard have other scientist pals namely Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and Raj Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar).

The show was male-centric at first and to balance it, ‘Big Bang Theory’ introduced female scientists: microbiologist Bernadette Rostenkowski (Melissa Rauch) and neuroscientist Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik).

Leonard eventually married Penny.

Bernadette and Howard got hitched and became parents.

Sheldon and Amy exchanged wedding vows in the last season’s finale (Season 11, Episode 24).

Jim Parson’s portrayal of Sheldon Cooper has earned him four (4) Emmy awards and Golden Globe. There’s also a prequel about Sheldon Cooper’s character called “Young Sheldon.”

Was ‘The Big Bang Theory’ canceled?

After 11 years on TV (Season 11), the hit comedy ‘The Big Bang Theory’ is officially ending after Season 12.

The show will be ending with 279 episodes in May 2019, announced by the American TV Network CBS and Warner Bros. This will officially make ‘The Big Bang Theory’ the longest-running multicamera comedy series of all time.

As some are speculating, this is not a flat-out cancellation of the show because CBS had already ordered the full Season 12 episodes.

The final season of The Big Bang Theory will be epic as hinted in the statements from Warner Bros. TV and Chuck Lorre Productions:

We are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons.

We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.
