Phenomenal star Maine Mendoza (age 23) proved once again that her popularity is still at a high.
Powered by her solid and loyal fanbase, Maine Mendoza made it to the top 5 of entertainment site Starmometer’s “100 Asian Sweethearts”.
Garnering the highest points among the other Filipino female celebrities included in the poll , Maine Mendoza will have the chance to be voted as the Ultimate Asian Sweetheart of 2018.
Urassaya Sperbund of Thailand is a far second with 22,551 votes (24.73%) and Jennie Kim of South Korea is presently at third place with 16,080 (17.6%). Sanaya Irani of India got 4,618 votes (5.06%) while Shen Yue of China comes in last with 1,421 votes (1.56%)
So, how did Maine Mendoza react to being one of the Top 5 of “100 Asian Sweethearts”?
In an interview with Nelson Canlas of GMA Network, the ever-humble Maine Mendoza said:
Hindi ko naman deserve yung title…Asian Sweetheart? Kung Kalye Sweetheart po o kaya yung Barangay Sweetheart, yun po pwede. Pero yung Asian Sweetheart parang too much naman po para sa akin. Pero sobrang na appreciate ko syempre bukod sa nakasama ako sa top 5 e yung effort nung mga fans po na talagang bumoto, talagang nagpuyat.
I don’t deserve the title…Asian Sweetheart? If it’s Kalye Sweetheart or Barangay Sweetheart, that will do. But Asian Sweetheart, it seems too much for me. But I appreciate so much, the effort of the fans who really voted, who really stayed awake all night.
Canlas said that Maine Mendoza couldn’t believe she got included in the top 5 finalists considering there are so many popular and beautiful Asian celebrities.

After an online poll on the Starmometer site as well as Twitter and Facebook, an original list of 100 stars was trimmed down to the Top 30 semifinalists.
For the Philippines, Angel Locsin, Bea Alonzo, Elisse Joson, Janella Salvador, Kathryn Bernardo, Kim Chiu, Maymay Entrata, Nadine Lustre, Sarah Geronimo, and Maine Mendoza; were among those who made it to the Top 30.
Getting the highest number of votes among the Philippine semifinalists, Maine Mendoza moved up as one of the Top 5 finalists in the “100 Asian Sweethearts” poll.
Maine Mendoza became a household name in the Philippines owing to her role as Yaya Dub in the “Kalyeserye” series of noontime show Eat Bulaga. She was teamed up with Alden Richards (age 26), in a popular love team commonly known as AlDub.
Currently filming the Metro Manila Filmfest 2018 entry, “Jack Em Popoy: The PulisCredibles” with Coco Martin and Vic Sotto, Maine Mendoza can be seen daily as a co-host at the Philippines’ longest-running noontime show, “Eat Bulaga”.
