Kung Fu Panda (movie series) has been very successful worldwide. Their fans have been wanting Kung Fu Panda 4 after the release of Kung Fu Panda 3 in 2016 even though reports are saying this third installment is the lowest-grossing film in the Kung Fu Panda series.

Worldwide, Kung Fu Panda 3 earned a total of USD 521.2 million. Compare that with the gross earnings of the first two installments:

Kung Fu Panda (2008)

Gross earnings : USD 631.7 million
– Was the highest-grossing non-Shrek film from DreamWorks Animation in the United States and Canada, before being surpassed by How to Train Your Dragon in 2010.

Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011)

Gross earnings: USD 665.7 million
– Worldwide, it is the highest-grossing 2011 animated film and the sixth highest-grossing film of 2011.
– It is the 14th highest-grossing animated film and the 69th highest-grossing film.

Despite Kung Fu Panda 3 being the lowest-grossing installment in the series, it received positive reviews from movie critics.

It got a ‘certified fresh’ badge on Rotten Tomatoes with 86% rating and 165 reviews as of this writing.

Critics Consensus:

Kung Fu Panda 3 boasts the requisite visual splendor, but like its rotund protagonist, this sequel’s narrative is also surprisingly nimble, adding up to animated fun for the whole family.

Now, many people have been excited to see what Kung Fu Panda 4 has to offer. There has been no announcement nor confirmation that Kung Fu Panda 4 is even in the works yet and if it’s coming soon.

As of this writing, Kung Fu Panda 4 is not yet in the list of movies Jack Black is currently working on.

But people have been anticipating this fourth installment simply because years ago, Dreamworks Animation executive Jeffrey Katzenberg revealed that there will be six (6) sequels to the Kung Fu Panda movie series.

Kung Fu Panda actually has 6 chapters to it, and we’ve mapped that out over the years.

In that case, there are 3 more Kung Fu Panda movies left and that’s the reason why fans are craving for Kung Fu Panda 4 to come out, soon. Some are even hoping that Kung Fu Panda 4 would be released in 2019.

Just this August 2018, Kung Fu Panda director Jennifer Yuh Nelson (age 46) was asked in an interview about the updates on Kung Fu Panda 4. She said:

I really don’t know. For me it had always been a trilogy, in terms of the exact arc that we were working on. I really don’t know what the plans are. But the pull is Po. Po is the world. So I am sure something will happen at some point, but it’s just that I don’t know what.

Kung Fu Panda 4 release date

It seems like Dreamworks is not in a rush in releasing Kung Fu Panda 4 anytime soon. Are they taking their time to complete its story? If so, does it mean it will be a bigger one than the rest?

Rumor has it that Kung Fu Panda 4 will be delayed until 2020. [ref] As to the reasons of the delay, there are no reports yet.

In Kung Fu Panda 3, Po finally meets his father and the other pandas like him. With that, could Kung Fu Panda 4 be more about family and all?
