The Filipino comics “Trese” written by Budjette Tan and illustrated by Kajo Baldisimo, will soon be transformed into a Netflix anime series.
This piece of good news was announced by Netflix executive Taito Okiura during the Netflix event “See What’s Next Asia” held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on November 8, 2018.
The Filipino “Trese” is one of the five anime shows unveiled by Netflix during the event.
“Trese” is the story of Alexandra Trese, an investigator who focuses on crime scenes with paranormal or supernatural phenomena.
The comic book series show Alexandra Trese dealing with Filipino mythical creatures and monsters like the shapeshifting evil spirit known as “aswang”; the scary tree giant “kapre”; and the half human and half horse creature known as “tikbalang”.
“Trese” will be produced by Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson at BASE Entertainment, which has studios based in Jakarta and Singapore, according to Variety. Its Executive Producer will be no less than Jay Oliva (“Wonder Woman,” “The Legend of Korra”).
Netflix does not have a release date yet for the “Trese” anime series, but Filipino anime fans are already eagerly anticipating when it will finally stream on Netflix.
“Trese” author Budjette Tan is also currently raising funds on crowdfunding website Indiegogo for the global edition of “Trese” comics.
Tan said that it was always his and illustrator Baldisimo’s dream, for “Trese” to reach more readers in foreign shores.
