Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray drops by the Miss Universe headquarters in New York, proudly wearing “a denim skirt hand-embellished with mother of pearl by the Tagakaolo tribe”.
The Tagakaolo is an ethnic tribe that inhabit Mindanao, Sarangani, Davao del Sur and Mt. Apo.
Catriona cited fashion designer Wilson NiñoFranco Limon and stylist Ton Lao for her casual chic ensemble.

Wilson Limon, the founder of fashion brand NiñoFranco, is a designer who is known for reinventing the traditional and the ethnic in his creations while Ton Lao is a popular celebrity fashion stylist in the Philippines.
Catriona Gray promotes Philippine culture and fashion
The Tagakaolo skirt is not the first ethnic skirt worn by Catriona. She also wore a T’boli Marsala skirt by NiñoFranco in Bangkok, Thailand during the Miss Universe events.

Bringing Philippine fashion to the world stage may just be one of the benefits of Catriona Gray winning the Miss Universe title. Even before the Miss Universe awarding ceremony, Catriona released a series of videos promoting the Philippines and its culture.
During the Miss Universe pageant, Catriona brought to the fore, the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines in her national costume.
Catriona Gray also showcased the magnificent gowns of designer Mak Tumang during the Miss Universe pageant. Tumang reportedly received lots of inquiries from Miss Universe franchises from all over the world after the pageant preliminaries and finals.
Catriona Gray is in New York as part and parcel of her reign as Miss Universe. But she will undoubtedly continue to showcase the Filipino culture and creations even during her stay at the Big Apple.
