The Academy Awards, aka the Oscars, will do something different this 2019, something they haven’t done in 30 years.

The show must go on. The 91st Annual Academy Awards (aka Oscars 2019) will continue the Oscars 2019 with no host. They seem to have stopped looking for an A-lister emcee who is willing to host the prestigious awards ceremony. The Academy Awards plans to recruit various hollywood stars instead of hiring just one main host to command the show.

There are only six weeks remaining until the Oscars 2019 takes place. It will happen live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on February 24, 2019.

American comedian Kevin Hart (age 39) was chosen by the Academy Awards to host the show, but due to Kevin Hart’s homophobic tweets in the past, things became messy. Two days after the announcement of Kevin Hart as the host of the Oscars 2019, Kevin Hart passed on the opportunity.

Kevin Hart stepped down as Oscars 2019 host after his homophobic (anti-gay) tweets and jokes between 2009 and 2011 were exposed. This controversy forced the Academy Awards to give Kevin Hart an ultimatum. If he apologized for his homophobic tweets, he will remain as the host of Oscars 2019. If he didn’t, they will revoke the hosting gig.

Kevin Hart said in an Instagram video:

I’m gonna be me and stand my ground. Regardless, The Academy, I’m thankful and appreciative of the opportunity. If it goes away, no harm no foul.

He also tweeted this:

I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.

Kevin Hart told Variety:

The moment came and it was a blessing and I was excited at the opportunity and I still am. In my mind I got the job, it was a dream job, and things came up that simply prohibited it from happening. But I don’t believe in going backwards.

Kevin Hart steps down as Oscars 2019 host

Kevin Hart withdrew from hosting the 91st Academy Awards (Oscars 2019) two days after accepting the hosting gig.

The controversy arose when old anti-gay statements (between 2009 to 2011) of Kevin Hart surfaced. Kevin Hart’s team deleted the homophobic tweets that caused the outcry.

My team calls me, “Oh my God, Kevin, everyone’s upset by tweets you did years ago.” Guys, I’m nearly 40 years old. If you don’t believe that people change, grow, evolve as they get older, I don’t know what to tell you. If you want to hold people in a position where they always have to justify the past, do you. I’m the wrong guy, man.

That statement he issued made matters worse as people found it non-apologetic. After some hours, Kevin Hart shared a video saying that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) gave him an ultimatum. If he apologized for his homophobic tweets, he would keep the hosting gig at Oscars 2019, if he didn’t, they would find a new host.

I chose to pass on the apology. The reason why I passed is because I’ve addressed this several times. This is not the first time this has come up. I’ve addressed it. I’ve spoken on it.

I’ve said where the rights and wrongs were. I’ve said who I am now versus who I was then. I’ve done it. I’m not going to continue to go back and tap into the days of old when I’ve moved on and I’m in a completely different place in my life.

After some couple of hours, Kevin Hart announced on Twitter that he’s stepping down as the Oscars 2019 host. He stated:

I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.

I’m sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.
