Maroon 5, with its vocalist Adam Levine performed a more than 13 minute act during the Super Bowl 53 halftime in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz stadium, which also featured American rappers and singers Travis Scott and Big Boi.

The Maroon 5 Halftime show on February 3, 2019, got mostly negative feedback online. On YouTube, the halftime show has gained over 6.4 million views, with only 77,000 likes and over 600,000 dislikes, less than 48 hours after it was posted. That’s a ratio of almost 8 dislikes for every like of the video.

Compare those numbers with Lady Gaga’s Halftime Show in 2017 which had 580,000 likes and only 39,000 dislikes or even Justin Timberlake’s halftime show (which also failed to impress netizens) in 2018 with 178K likes and 56K dislikes.

At the rate Maroon 5’s halftime performance video is being disliked, it’s not unlikely that it will be included in YouTube’s List of most-disliked videos, which has “Everyday Saturday (Remix)” by ApoRed at #50 with 950,000 dislikes.

SpongeBob SquarePants tribute

As expected, Maroon 5 paid tribute to SpongeBob SquarePants, whose creator Stephen Hillenburg, died in November 2018.

But some fans found the SpongeBob tribute too short and were disappointed with it. A lot of fans expected the band to play the song “Sweet Victory”, a song which SpongeBob sang at the Bubble Bowl, which is similar to the Super Bowl.

Instead, a short video clip lasting around 15 seconds of SpongeBob and pals performing the song was shown.

All in all, Maroon 5’s halftime show has been described as dull, forgettable, and “the worst” by a lot of netizens and critics, alike. There’so much negative feedback online about their halftime performance and people continue to talk about how bad it was.

According to messages and comments online, the only memorable part in Maroon 5’s halftime show is when Adam Levine took off his shirt while performing, exposing to the world his sculpted, tattoed body.

Adam Levine’s tattoos look like he just goes to a tattoo parlor and says “One tattoo please.”

As to Maroon 5’s reaction to the negative feedbacks, Adam Levine somehow addressed it via an Instagram post, thanking their critics “for always pushing us to do better”.

When we accepted the responsibility to perform at the SBHTS, I took out my pen and just wrote. Some of the words that came to me in that moment eventually made their way onto the incredible lanterns that flew high and low tonight. We thank the universe for this historic opportunity to play on the world’s biggest stage. We thank our fans for making our dreams possible. And we thank our critics for always pushing us to do better. One Love.
