A dental hygienist from Fremont, California named Ashley Hess (age 27) gave an impressive audition on American Idol 2019, singing “Don’t Know Why” by Norah Jones.
Singing the first line of the song while playing the piano, the judges were already visibly impressed.
Less than a minute into the song, Luke Bryan spoke up already and said, “Ashley, you can step on back on the mark right there,” pointing to the floor in front of the judges.
The judges had heard enough. Her voice was too good to be true.
Luke said, “You’re making me very mad.”
Katy Perry exclaimed, “How can you just like come in here so casually going, yeah I was gonna be a dental hygienist…”
At that point, Luke Bryan asked Katy Perry and Lionel Richie to carry their chairs to move closer to the piano and asked Ashley to sing again.
Continuing her performance with her polished style and beautiful runs, the judges stood up to get back to their seats, contented with what they have heard.
Luke exclaimed, “The control, girl,” while Lionel said, “I’m good. I’m good.”

Ashley revealed to the judges that she got a late start in music because she just didn’t think she could ever do it.
Katy Perry said, “Guess what, I think you could win this whole thing.”
Lionel seconded Katy’s comment, “Can I snap you out of your delusionary state of mind? You could knock this out of the ballpark. Listen, it’s fabulous.”
Of course the judges said to Ashley, “You’re going to Hollywood!”
Katy said to Ashley after the golden ticket was given, “I’m just mad that you just don’t believe in yourself. You could win this competition. Wake up!”
All the judges wanted to make Ashley realize just how good she is.
As she was going out of the audition room, Lionel said,”You are out of the dental business, OK?”
American Idol airs on Sundays and Mondays at 8:00 P.M. on ABC.
