Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin’s unmatched legacy was celebrated again in a musical tribute where a lot of big stars performed her iconic songs. The show is called “Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul”.

The musical event for Aretha Franklin was taped in January 2019 and it was hosted by American actor Tyler Perry. The event showcased some fantastic vocal performances from a star-studded line-up of legendary singers.

Jennifer Hudson started the show with two of Aretha Franklin’s most iconic songs, “Respect” (1967) and “Think” (1968).

Then, Alicia Keys and SZA took the stage for a medley that included Aretha Franklin’s famous songs “Spirit in the Dark,” “Day Dreaming,” and “You’re All I Need to Get By.”

Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood rocked the stage with her powerful cover of “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)”.

Celine Dio gave a jaw-dropping performance of “A Change Is Gonna Come”.

John Legend also performed to pay tribute to Aretha Franklin with his performance of Aretha Franklin’s cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s 1970 classic “Bridge Over Troubled Waters.”

The event closed on a quartet performance that featured Brandi Carlile, Alessia Cara, Fantasia, Andra Day. They came together for an incredible cover of Aretha Franklin’s widely celebrated female anthem, “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.”

The performers at Aretha Franklin tribute also include Janelle Monae (who sang Aretha Franklin’s 1971 hit “Rock Steady”), H.E.R. (who sang “I Say a Little Prayer”), and the Godmother of Soul, Patti LaBelle (who sang “I Dreamed a Dream,” and “Call Me”).

The Aretha Franklin tribute happened after about seven months of Aretha Franklin’s death. Aretha Franklin died at age 76 at her home in Detroit, Michigan, on August 18, 2018. She died of advanced pancreatic cancer.
