‘The Masked Singer’ winner T-Pain (Monster) would have wanted Gladys Knight to be the winner, if it were up to him to decide.
The reality singing competition TV series ‘The Masked Singer’ had its season finale on February 27, 2019 and the top three contenders were finally unmasked for the judges and the viewers.
The Monster, who was voted as the winner of the competition, was revealed to be American rapper, singer and songwriter T-Pain (age 33). Nobody in the judges panel guessed who he is, though some people online were able to identify him before the big reveal.

Runner up “Peacock” turned up to be singer and former teen idol Donny Osmond. When host Nick Cannon asked the panel of judges to make their guess, only TV personality Jenny McCarthy was able to guess who Peacock was.
Judge Robin Thicke and guest judge Kenan Thompson guessed that The Peacock was “Weird” Al Yankovic, while actor and comedian Ken Jeong and recording artist Nicole Scherzinger thought the “Peacock” was American actor, writer and singer Neil Patrick Harris.

But when it came to third placer “Bee”, most judges had it spot on as 4 of them guessed the Bee was none other than the ‘Empress of Soul’ Gladys Knight (age 74).
Jenny said that “with a voice like that, it’s pretty hard not to hear who it is.”
Robin Thicke agreed and said, “Yeah, it’s a voice from God.”
Kenan Thompson, who guessed the Bee is Gladys Knight early on said, “When I heard you sing I knew within a half of a second who you were.”
Judges then mentioned the clues which pointed to Gladys Knight as the singer behind the ‘Bee’ mask like beginning her career in the fifties and the “Georgia” peaches.
Only Ken Jeong stuck to his guess that the Bee was singer Anita Baker.
A lot of buzz online also pointed to Gladys Knight as the singer behind masked singer Bee. That iconic voice unmistakably belongs to a legendary singer who is one of the most respected artists in the world.
Gladys Knight commands so much respect that even The Masked Singer winner T-Pain said in an interview with the Hollywood Reporter that if it was up to him, he “definitely would have let her win”. He said that Gladys Knight is amazing and that she is somebody he looks up to.
T-Pain said, “Nobody wants to beat Gladys Knight at anything! I’d let her win a video game.”
Kenan Thompson echoed T-Pain’s sentiment and probably summed up the experience for everyone who witnessed Gladys Knight’s brilliant performances throughout the competition which included Sia’s “Chandelier,” Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven,” Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to do With It,” Aretha Franklin’s “(You Make Me Feel) Like a Natural Woman,” and her finale song, Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.”
Prefacing his comment with the funny quip “Well, as the resident black judge, ” Kenan continued by saying, “You Know good and well, how heavy you are in the culture, you know? Because that voice has graced my life, my parents’ life, and, like, every single family member I’ve ever had. And I think it’s an unbelievable feeling to be able to have witnessed this. I can’t thank you guys enough for having me on the show. It’s been incredible.”

Gladys Knight was such a gracious loser, though. After taking off her mask, she was asked by host Nick Cannon why she wanted to do a show like “The Masked Singer.” She said, “Because we should always strive to do different kinds of things because they elevate us eventually.”
And it did elevate Gladys Knight, with her name soaring off to greater heights after the show. Though she did not win the competition, Gladys Knight told Entertainment in an exclusive interview that her phone “has been ringin’ off the hook” since her near win in “The Masked Singer”.
Offers are pouring in for TV shows, interviews, and movies for the legendary singer who also said many people have now been asking, “When are you going to do the next thing?”
‘The Masked Singer’ Season 2 announced by Fox
The Masked Singer is a huge success and Fox had already announced that there would be a Season 2 for the show.
Hitting more than 11 million viewers on its Season Finale, ‘The Masked Singer’ is reportedly bigger than ‘The Bachelor’.
As to the when Season 2 will air and whether or not the host and judges will be the same, is still under wraps.
One thing’s for sure, now that ‘The Masked Singer’ has surfaced from under the radar, keeping the identities of the contestants secret will probably cause a big headache to the show’s producers in the future.
