Alejandro Aranda (age 25), one of American Idol’s most popular contestants, sang an emotional duet of “There Will Be a Light” with singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Ben Harper during the American Idol 2019 Top 20 All-Star Duets.
“There Will Be a Light” is taken from a gospel album of the same name by Ben Harper and the Blind Boys of Alabama, released in 2004.
Alejandro said he grew up listening to the music of Ben Harper and was super impressed with his songwriting. He described Harper as a “genius”.
Both Aranda and Harper played the guitar as they sang. Their vocal harmony stunned American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, who were saying “Wow” in the background as they performed.
Alejandro Aranda was chosen as one of the Top 14 contestants of American Idol Season 17 (2019). His name was the last one to be called, but his fans never doubted that he will be part of the Top 14.
