Captain Marvel, the first female-led solo movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), has surpassed the worldwide gross of “The Dark Knight”.
Zooming past the $1 billion mark on Tuesday (April 2, 2019), Captain Marvel has now earned $1.006 billion global as of April 4, 2019. In comparison, “The Dark Knight” had a worldwide gross of $1.004 billion during its run in 2008.
Captain Marvel is now #37 in the list of all-time box office worldwide grosses. It’s a notch lower than “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”, which earned $1.021 billion worldwide in 2012.
The Brie Larson (age 29) and Samuel Jackson (age 70) starrer is now the 7th Marvel title to cross the $1 billion mark.
Captain Marvel is currently the highest grossing film of 2019. That position is expected to be taken over by the most-anticipated movie of 2019, “Avengers: Endgame”, which will be showing in cinemas on April 26, 2019.
