Laine Hardy (age 18) does it again. Looking suave in a navy blue blazer, he sang an impressive cover of the 1960’s hit by Sam Cooke titled “Bring It on Home to Me” for the Top 20 Solos of American Idol Season 17 (2019).
The musician from Livingston, Los Angeles made the song his own, doing an amazing rendition that wowed both the audience and the judges.
And while Laine Hardy was performing, one couldn’t help but be reminded of a young version of the “King of Rock and Roll”, Elvis Presley.
After his Top 20 solo performance, the American Idol judges gave their comments, which were all positive.
Katy Perry exclaimed, “Jesus, take the wheel!”
Lionel Richie said:
We are in trouble now. Because Laine has discovered (shaking his leg like Elvis) a new thing. You can take that look all the way to the bank, my friend.
Katy Perry commented:
I’m scared of you. It’s a good thing. Because you are literally commanding the stage. I’m so glad that we don’t get to pick our Top 10 coz I can’t do it anymore, coz you all keep coming out here bringing it like this. I’m like, what am I gonna do with you? Take the wheel.
Like Lionel and Katy, Luke Bryan also praised Hardy. He said:
I’m really so happy where your voice has come from last year. But what I’m even more excited about is everything you’re doing currently, looks like you’re trying to win this whole competition.
Laine Hardy didn’t make it to the Top 24 in American Idol Season 16 (2018). He was given another shot for the title when the judges wooed him into coming back when he accompanied his friend Ashton Gill during the auditions for this year’s American Idol. Ashton didn’t make the cut for the Top 40, but Laine looks like he could make it to the Top 10 at the very least.
