Celia Babini (age 18) of New York and Karly Moreno (age 23) of California sang ‘Friends’ by Marshmello and Anne-Marie on The Voice Season 16 (2019) Battles.

Both of them performed well but their coach, Adam Levine, chose Celia Babini as the winner of the battle.

But when Karly Moreno got down from the stage and was about to approach Adam, Blake Shelton pressed his button to steal her, making both Adam and Celia happy that Karly still remains in the competition.

Here are the judges comments on their performance:

Blake Shelton

I don’t know that we’ve seen two more different type singers not from just each other, but from anybody else in the world.

Celia, it’s so clear that you love Florence and The Machine. My advice to you would be, be sure that you’re doing enough of your own thing also. But that doesn’t take away from your holy crapness that you have about you. So good, so good.

Did you like my word, holy crapness, that I said? I just made that up on the spot.

Karly, you displayed holy crapness because I didn’t expect that from you. I love watching you perform with the smile that you have on your face, the confidence that you have. And I got to say, you stepped up to the plate. I don’t feel like anybody really tripped up anything there. Good job.

Kelly Clarkson

Celia, you have this really cool presence and intenseness when you’re in especially that low range, and you have this almost urban kind of Florence thing. It’s like, it’s different. You’re really rad, man.

I don’t want to discount what Karly did. I love your chill vibe. I think your presence made that battle what it was as well. I didn’t even know you had all that in you. It was so good. Adam, good job.

John Legend

Both your styles are very different. Both your voices are very different. But you both executed it with suck skill, I got out of my head and was able to just sit here and enjoy it. And that’s what we really want. We want to, like, feel that chill that we feel when things just come together, and you guys both did that beautifully. So, congratulations.

Adam Levine

I think that you’re both world class and I think that you both could go very far in this thing if not win it. I really do.

But the surprise, the shocker was Karly. You are amazing in ways that I was kind of just discovering. Obviosly I want to know more.

And then Celia was a four-chair turn. She’s shiny and sparkling all the time. There’s so much about you that is so enigmatic and so interesting. Um, Cool.

Then Adam jokingly said, “I got to go. I’ll see you later.”

When it came to choosing the winner, Adam said, “I can’t go wrong, but I also cannot go right, ’cause the right thing would be to have you both. The winner of this battle is Celia.”

Adam explained later, “Celia has just the whole thing. The persona, the voice, the presence. There’s something about her that is unbelievably special.

The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8:00 P.M. (ET) on NBC.
