Wedding singer Uche Ndubizu (age 24) from Sugar Land, Texas, sang a dazzling cover of “Figures” by Jessie Reyez during the Top 20 Solo round on American Idol Season 17 (2019).

Uche owned the stage and slayed the song. The crowd cheered him on and judge Katy Perry “fainted”, overwhelmed by Uche’s performance.

The judges heaped praises on Uche with Katy Perry repeatedly saying, “You’re a lot,” to the singer.

Judges’ Comments:

Lionel Richie

Honestly, who the hell are you? Because when I’m prepared and I think that was it, you go to another level. It’s crazy. I love you man! I love you!

Katy Perry

So look, you like got all the trick sleeves, all the tricks in the bag and just keep finessing it, keep finessing it.

(Luke Bryan told Katy Perry: “We almost sent him away. It would have been a cataclysmic mistake.”)

I know because you’re a lot. You’re a lot. Let’s get real, you’re a lot, right? There’s no subtlety to Uche, which is fine. People come to see rock stars ’cause they are a lot. They want big, they wanna be moved. But you gotta make sure to like just take them on that journey, you know?

American Idol airs Sundays and Mondays at 8:00 P.M. (ET) on ABC.
