Ana May Delos Reyes (age 20) a single mother from Cebu City, sang an amazing cover of “Chasing Pavements” by British singer Adele.
“Chasing Pavements” is Adele’s second single from her debut album “19” and was Adele’s first US Billboard Hot 100 entry which peaked at No. 21.
In a teaser, Ana May revealed she would have to sacrifice seeing her 2-year-old child for a while as she is pursuing her dreams via Idol Philippines 2019.
In a conversation in the Visayan language with Idol Philippines 2019 judge Regine Velasquez, Ana May said she came to Manila and left her child with her mother for the meantime. She said she is also doing everything for her kid.
When Regine Velasquez said that life is difficult, she agreed and said it’s challenging anyway, which made the judges laugh.
Before she sang, she asked to hug all of the judges and gave all of them very tight hugs when she was allowed to do so.
When she started to sing, the judges were quite impressed with her voice. At the end of her performance, Idol Philippines 2019 judges Moira dela Torre, James Reid, Vice Ganda and Regine Velasquez generally gave positive comments but also imparted constructive criticisms about her voice and performance. But at the end of it all, Ana May Delos Reyes got 4 yes votes and was handed a Golden Ticket to Idol City.

Moira dela Torre said that ever since she heard the natural voice break / crack of singer Morissette Amon, it has been her favorite. She said that Ana May has the same natural voice crack, and it’s beautiful.
Judge Moira told Ana May that she really likes her tone, it’s just that sometimes the diction is distracting and that there are some parts that got disconnected.
Vice Ganda said there are some parts that he liked and some parts that he didn’t like. He said the beauty of Ana May’s voice comes out more when she sings calmly.
You might not have the best song choice. But that’s easy. What’s important for me is your tone. I really like it. You have a sound. You have something unique. I think that’s something we can work on.
Regine Velasquez said that for her, Ana May did not sing that cleanly. There are parts wherein she was already straining especially with the high notes. Then in her lows, she was also straining because it’s too low. Regine said she’s not too sure if Ana May’s ability to sing is enough for her to enter Idol Philippines.
Despite their slight criticisms about Ana May Delos Reyes’ performance, all of the judges gave her their Yes votes for different reasons.
James Reid says he likes the fact that Ana May Delos Reyes is confident with herself while Moira dela Torre said she can hear in Ana May’s voice that she really studied her audition song as well as her willingness to learn and her eagerness.
Vice Ganda said they always challenge those who audition. This time around, he said he wants to challenge himself as to what he and the other judges can do to help develop Ana May Delos Reyes.
Regine Velasquez agreed with Vice Ganda and said she also wants to see up to where Ana May can carry herself in the competition. “For your family and for your child, use them as your inspiration,” Regine told Ana May Delos Reyes.
With 4 Yes votes from the judges, Ana May Delos Reyes got a Golden Ticket to Idol City.
