Lance Busa (age 24) from Butuan City, sang an amazing version of “What You Won’t Do For Love” by Bobby Caldwell.
“What You Won’t Do For Love” was written by Bobby Caldwell and Alfons Kettner, and was released in 1978. The song is Caldwell’s most successful single and also his signature song. It peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 6 on the Hot Selling Soul Singles chart, and number 10 on the Easy Listening chart.
Prior to joining Idol Philippines 2019, Lance Busa was declared the winner of Fox Network Group Asia’s “Bolt of Talent,” a 2017 talent competition show held in Malaysia and headlined by American pop icon Michael Bolton. He joined Bolton in his world tour and also won a record deal as part of his prize.
When Lance Busa performed his audition piece on Idol Philippines 2019, it seemed like the judges were clueless as to his win in the Bolt of Talent competition. But Lance did not fail to impress them with his polished performance and vocal calisthenics.
After his performance, Moira gave him a standing ovation while the other judges clapped loudly. Regine Velasquez exclaimed, “Smokin!”
Lance Busa told the judges that he was scared to do “this sound” since a lot of people told him to try to compete in other countries because it does not suit the Philippines. He said he tried to compete in Malaysia but he did not feel completely happy so he went back home.
All of the Idol Philippines 2019 judges gave Lance Busa their Yes votes for his performance. He got a Golden Ticket to Idol City for the next phase of Idol Philippines 2019.

James Reid said, “That was amazing. You clearly are an amazing singer. I loved your vibe bro. And you were feeling it so hard. I had fun watching you.” James added in the end, “For me, the only direction is up, for you.”
Moira Dela Torre commented, “I felt how I felt when with Bruno Mars when I watched him. And I feel like you can reach that level.”
After learning that Lance Busa tried to compete in another country but came back to the Philippines, Moira thanked him for his decision to fight for his type of sound or music in the Philippines. She added that even if he is good technically but not authentic, he will not reach his audience.
Regine Velasquez said that when she listened to Lance Busa, she observed he was hitting all his notes and his runs were very smooth. She said it is obvious that Lance has been performing because even with the body language and the way he looks at the judges, she knew Lance played them in his hands.
Vice Ganda said there’s not a bit of a problem in Lance Busa’s vocal ability and the sound that comes out of his mouth because he is so good. Vice Ganda said that when he closes his eyes, it’s so good to listen to Lance. But he said the only thing that he didn’t like that much was that Lance was moving so much. He said every word or syllable he sings comes with a hand gesture, which was quite distracting. Vice said that Lance does not have to do so much, because his voice and looks are enough for him.
All the judges gave their Yes votes to Lance Busa’s performance, who smiled from ear to ear when he received his Golden Ticket to Idol City.
