Toy Story is a 1995 computer-animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The feature film directorial debut of John Lasseter, it was the first entirely computer-animated feature film, as well as the first feature film from Pixar.
The animated movie takes place in a world where toys come to life when humans are not present. It focuses on the relationship between a pull-string cowboy doll named Woody and an astronaut action figure, Buzz Lightyear. They evolve from rivals competing for the affections of their owner Andy Davis, to friends who work together to be reunited with him after being separated.
Toy Story was positively reviewed by critics and audiences upon its release and has earned a total of USD 373.6 million worldwide.
The film won and was nominated for various awards including nominations for three Academy Awards, two to Randy Newman for Best Music—Original Song, for “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”, and Best Music—Original Musical or Comedy Score. It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay for the work by Joel Cohen, Pete Docter, John Lasseter, Joe Ranft, Alec Sokolow, Andrew Stanton and Joss Whedon, making Toy Story the first animated film to be nominated for an Academy Award writing category.
