British singer-songwriter and actress Leona Lewis (age 34) chose the song “Solo Quiero (Somebody to Love)” by Rozee (real name Rosalyn Lockhart) as her Songland Selection.
Following the format of the songwriting competition, four songs were presented to guest artist Leona Lewis:
– ‘Perfect Skin’ by Olivia Lane
– ‘Fighting For Us’ (retitled ‘Solo Quiero'(Somebody to Love)’) by Rozee
– ‘A Heart Full of Love’ (retitled ‘When You Fall In Love’) by Rafferty
– ‘Ugliest Love’ by Annabel Lee
Among the four, Leona Lewis was very much impressed with Rozee’s ‘Fighting For Us’, which was later retitled to ‘Solo Quiero (Somebody to Love)’. ‘Solo Quiero’ translates to ‘All I Want’ in English
Leona said Rozee’s song spoke to her Caribbean roots. She added that she wanted a song with international appeal and a song that she could easily jump on with another artist. “The song really married the two worlds very beautifully,” said Leona.
Here’s how Rozee’s ‘Solo Quiero (Somebody to Love)’ sounded, the first time it was pitched to Leona Lewis and to Songland producers and judges Ester Dean, Ryan Tedder and Shane Mcanally:
Ryan Tedder and Rozee collaborated to tweak the lyrics and tempo of the song. Rozee’s ballad was transformed into something like Latin pop, a song that Lewis could sing with a Spanish artist.

True to her vision, Leona sang Rozee’s composition ‘Solo Quiero (Somebody to Love)’ with different artists.

Rozee is a daughter of a minister. She was born on St. Croix, grew up in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and now resides in Washington DC. She is a self taught pianist/organist and “learned the basics of pitch and harmonization at a very young age,” according to her website. She released her debut EP ‘Retrospect’ on May 31, 2019.
