American actor Peter Fonda has died at at age 79 on Friday, August 16, 2019, from respiratory failure due to lung cancer.
Peter Fonda is the younger brother of actress and political activist Jane Fonda (age 81), and the son of the legendary Henry Fonda (died at age 77), who was named the sixth-Greatest Male Star of All Time.
He is survived by his wife Margaret “Parky” DeVogelaere (age 65), whom he married in 2011.
Peter had two children with his first wife Susan Brewer, namely actress Bridget Fonda (age 55) and Justin Fonda.
His wife Parky released a statement to the press, saying:
In one of the saddest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our hearts. As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy. And while we mourn the loss of this sweet and gracious man, we also wish for all to celebrate his indomitable spirit and love of life. In honor of Peter, please raise a glass to freedom.
Meanwhile, his sister Jane Fonda also said in a statement that she is very sad that Peter is gone. “He was my sweet-hearted baby brother. The talker of the family. I have had beautiful alone time with him these last days. He went out laughing,” she said.
Peter Fonda is best known for his movies “Easy Rider” (1969) and “Ulee’s Gold” (1997).

He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for “Easy Rider” and the Academy Award for Best Actor for “Ulee’s Gold,” and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama for the latter.
The last film he made before he died is a war drama film titled “The Last Full Measure”, which is scheduled for release on October 25, 2019.
