Cory Jackson (age 24) and Zach Bridges (age 28) sang a cover of Toby Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” on The Voice Battles 2019 (Season 17).
John Legend said Cory and Zach looked like stars onstage. He said Cory’s voice is great on the top notes. As for Zach, John said his tone was really rich and “got such a heart to it,” and he enjoyed really listening to his voice. John picked Zach as the winner of the battle.
Gwen Stefani said Zach’s voice has a more unique quality, but Cory kept stealing the show and kept doing things that were enganging. She picked Cory as the winner of the battle.
Kelly Clarkson said that no man was better than the other. She said they have different tones that blend so well. Kelly did not pick a winner for the round.
Coach Blake Shelton said Zach has a big baritone voice that’s commanding and Cory has great pitch and showmanship. Blake Shelton said there’s really no winner, but basing on his gut feeling, the winner is Zach.
Blake explained later that Cory might have more experience, but Zach’s deeper voice is something that they never hear a lot on “The Voice”. That provides an opportunity to try some things never done before on the show.
