Josie Jones (age 16) and Kat Hammock’s (age 18) performed John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” on The Voice Battles 2019 (Season 17).

John Legend said the battle had “sweetness exuding from everything.” He noted that their voices couldn’t be much more different. He said Josie had so much power while Kat’s voice is different and distinct. When Kelly Clarkson said it sounded like Alison Krauss, John agreed. He continued by saying that Kat’s voice is intriguing while Josie gave a better performance technically, so his bet is on Josie.

Gwen Stefani said their rendition reminded her of butterflies, rainbows and sunshine. She said Josie was confident and smooth and unique-sounding. Meanwhile, she said that if Kat makes a record, it would be the record that one will listen to all day long. She said she would choose Kat because her voice is so cool.

Kelly said Josie had the range and had incredible control at age 16. As to Kat, Kelly agreed that no one sounds like her, and “it’s breathtaking.” She added, that it was the most angelic thing she’d seen on the show.

Blake said Josie did a wonderful voice switching from her head voice to chest voice to harmonize with Kat. Then he described Kat Hammock’s voice as phenomenal and unique. In the end, Blake chose Kat as the winner of the battle. He said later that he could see Kat making records and said she’s got a chance at winning the competition.
