Jessie Lawrence (age 31) and Rose Short (age 34) of Team Gwen Stefani sang a beautiful cover of The Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face”.
The Voice coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton gave them a standing ovation while the audience cheered loudly.
Kelly Clarkson said the audience won’t even let them talk. She said Rose and Jessie’s performance was so good, s**y, cool, so beautiful and so different from how The Weeknd did it.
Blake Shelton said that his girlfriend Gwen talked about the pairing of Jessie and Rose a lot. He said that one-chair turner Jessie is now in the middle of the radar all of a sudden. He said Jessie attacks a note when he’s singing, is right on pitch, and has a cool style. As to Rose, Blake took notice of how she hit the big high note on the chorus. Blake said, he’s not picking anyone as the winner of the battle.
John Legend said Jessie had fire and passion in his voice while Rose is a phenomenally talented vocalist, “a superstar soprano singer” with a beautiful voice and “great musical storytelling ability”. He said he leans “ever so slightly” toward Rose.
Gwen said she’s so proud and knew they were magical but didn’t expect they’d fire up the room. She said Rose has something special, and it’s not just her voice, but “it’s you.” As to Jessie, she said his voice was raw and cool and it’s powerful that he did not give up on himself. She said it was an unbelievable, heart-wrenching decision, but she picked Rose as the winner of the battle.
Then, Gwen pressed her button to Save Jessie, while Blake buzzed to Steal. Jessie chose to stay with Team Gwen. Both Rose and Jessie will now advance to the Knockouts.
