The show follows the firefighters and paramedics working at Firehouse 51 of the Chicago Fire Department, home of Truck Company 81, Engine Company 51, Squad Company 3, Ambulance 61, and Battalion 25 as they risk their lives to save and protect the citizens of Chicago.
On May 9, 2018, NBC renewed the series for a seventh season. The season premiered on September 26, 2018. On February 26, 2019, NBC renewed the series for an eighth season, which premiered on September 25, 2019.
