The Wolf Hour is a 2019 thriller drama film written and directed by Alistair Banks Griffin. It stars Naomi Watts, Emory Cohen, Jennifer Ehle, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Jeremy Bobb and Brennan Brown.
The movie is set in New York City, awash with escalating violence in July 1977. A citywide blackout is triggering fires, looting, and countless arrests and the Son of Sam murders are riddling the city with panic.
June Leigh (Naomi Watts), once a celebrated counterculture figure, attempts to retreat from the chaos by shutting herself inside her grandmother’s South Bronx apartment. But with the doorbell ringing incessantly and the unbearable heat, creeping paranoia and fear are taking hold. With visitors arriving one by one, some invited and some unsolicited, June must determine whom she can trust and whether she can find a path back to her former self.
With the tautness of an Alfred Hitchcock film, writer-director Alistair Banks Griffin brilliantly captures the texture of the 1970s and the interior unraveling of a woman who is teetering on a knife-edge just like her city.
