Marybeth grew up with a terrible stutter and was constantly teased. Speech therapy didn’t help, but one day her parents heard her sing and realized she wasn’t stuttering. Music became her refuge, and after performing at several charity events, she soon became known as the soul singer in her small country town. Outside of singing, Marybeth loves to help her dad with his pop-up food truck called Big Byrd’s BBQ. Marybeth recently graduated high school and comes to “The Voice” to see if she can make it on the big stage before committing to college.

Gomez also starred in the films Another Cinderella Story (2008), Princess Protection Program (2009), Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009), Ramona and Beezus (2010), and Monte Carlo (2011). Thereafter, she focused on more mature roles in Spring Breakers (2012), Getaway (2013), The Fundamentals of Caring (2016), and The Dead Don’t Die (2019). She voices the character of Mavis in the Hotel Transylvania film franchise, and serves as an executive producer of the Netflix television drama series 13 Reasons Why (2017–present) and the Netflix documentary series Living Undocumented (2019).

The seventeenth season of the American reality television show The Voice premiered on September 23, 2019, on NBC. John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton returned as coaches for their second, fourth, and seventeenth season, respectively. Gwen Stefani, who last coached in the twelfth season, will return, replacing Adam Levine. With Levine’s departure, Shelton serves as the last remaining coach from the show’s inaugural season. Meanwhile, Carson Daly returned for his seventeenth season as host.

The Voice is an American singing competition television series broadcast on NBC. It premiered during the spring television cycle on April 26, 2011, and expanded into the fall cycle with the premiere of the third season on September 10, 2012. Based on the original The Voice of Holland, and part of The Voice franchise it has aired sixteen seasons and aims to find currently unsigned singing talent (solo or duets, professional and amateur) contested by aspiring singers, age 13 or over, drawn from public auditions.

The winner is determined by television viewers voting by telephone, internet, SMS text, and iTunes Store purchases of the audio-recorded artists’ vocal performances. They receive US$100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group for winning the competition. The winners of the sixteen seasons have been: Javier Colon, Jermaine Paul, Cassadee Pope, Danielle Bradbery, Tessanne Chin, Josh Kaufman, Craig Wayne Boyd, Sawyer Fredericks, Jordan Smith, Alisan Porter, Sundance Head, Chris Blue, Chloe Kohanski, Brynn Cartelli, Chevel Shepherd, and Maelyn Jarmon.

The series employs a panel of four coaches who critique the artists’ performances and guide their teams of selected artists through the remainder of the season. They also compete to ensure that their act wins the competition, thus making them the winning coach. The original panel featured Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton; the panel for the current seventeenth season features Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend. Other coaches from previous seasons include Shakira, Usher, Pharrell Williams, Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Hudson. In the fifteenth season, Kelsea Ballerini was featured as an off-screen fifth coach for “Comeback Stage” contestants. Bebe Rexha took over as the “Comeback Stage” coach for the sixteenth season. In October 2019, it was announced that the series would continue into its eighteenth season.
