Power is created and produced by Courtney A. Kemp in collaboration with Curtis Jackson. It debuted on the Starz network on June 7, 2014, and is currently in its sixth and final season.

The series tells the story of James St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a ruthless, intelligent drug-dealer also known as “Ghost”. He wishes to leave the criminal world to pursue legitimate business interests as a nightclub owner. St. Patrick aims to balance these two lives, while avoiding police capture amid a crumbling marriage and shifting economic alliances.

The show also features James St. Patrick’s family, which consists of his wife Tasha (Naturi Naughton), son Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), and daughters Raina (Donshea Hopkins) and Yasmine (Amaya Carr). Power also follows St. Patrick’s criminal partner and lifelong best friend Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora), Assistant United States Attorney and love interest Angela Valdes (Lela Loren), friend-turned-rival Kanan Stark (50 Cent), protege and rival Andre Coleman (Rotimi Akinosho), and federal prosecutor Cooper Saxe (Shane Johnson). Criminal defense attorney Joe Proctor (Jerry Ferrara), District Attorney John Mak (Sung Kang) and Congressman Rashad Tate (Larenz Tate) also appear in the show’s later seasons.

Power gained critical acclaim upon its release for its characterization, pacing, atmosphere, acting, directing, and writing. It is one of Starz’s most highly rated shows and most watched shows. Starz renewed the show for a sixth and final season, which premiered on August 25, 2019.

Season 1 of Power received mixed reviews from critics. Review aggregator Metacritic gives the season a score of 57 out of 100, based on 15 reviews, indicating a mixed reaction to the series. Rotten Tomatoes, on the other hand, gives the season a score of 41%, based on 17 reviews, with an average rating of 5.72/10. The site’s consensus states, “Power suffers from excessive plotting and the use of overly familiar by-the-numbers story elements.”

American actor Omari Hardwick (age 45) plays the role of James “Ghost” St. Patrick. Hardwick became known for his roles in the TV series Saved and Dark Blue, and in the films Miracle at St. Anna (2008), The A-Team (2010), Kick-Ass (2010), For Colored Girls (2010).
