On the very brink of breaking up, a couple gets unintentionally embroiled in a bizarre (and hilarious) murder mystery. As they get closer to clearing their names and solving the case, they need to figure out how they, and their relationship, can survive the night.

It was scheduled to have its world premiere at South by Southwest in March 2020 but the festival was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was scheduled to be released on April 3, 2020, by Paramount Pictures in the US, but was delayed indefinitely due to the same 2019-20 coronavirus outbreak. It was later moved to Netflix and then on April 20, 2020, it was announced that the film will now premiere on May 22, 2020.
In January 2019, it was announced Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae had joined the cast of the film, with Michael Showalter, directing from a screenplay by Aaron Abrams, Brendan Gall, and Martin Gero. Abrams, Gall, Gero will serve as producers on the film, alongside, Oly Obst, Todd Schulman and Jordana Mollick, while Showalter, Nanjiani and Rae will serve as executive producers. Media Rights Capital will produce and finance the film, while Paramount Pictures will distribute. That same month, Anna Camp joined the cast of the film.
Issa Rae is an American actress, author, director, producer, and web series creator. She first garnered attention for her work on the YouTube web series Awkward Black Girl. Since 2011, Rae has continued to develop her YouTube channel, which features various short films, web series, and other content created by people of color. She subsequently gained further recognition for creating, co-writing, and starring in the HBO television series Insecure. For her acting work on Insecure, she has received two Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy and a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Rae has released one memoir, entitled The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl. Rae co-starred in Little and had a supporting role in the The Hate You Give. She will co-star in two upcoming movies, the drama The Photograph and the romantic comedy The Lovebirds.
