When townspeople start dying from a mysterious illness, Abigail’s town closes itself off from the outside world. Everyone infected with the disease was taken away to be executed, including Abigail’s beloved father. Ten years later, as she’s trying to escape the town’s security forces, Abigail uncovers a shocking truth – her father may still be alive. Filled with danger and discoveries, she sets out on a magical steampunk adventure that overturns everything she once knew about the world, her family, and even herself.
Abigail (Russian: Эбигейл) is a 2019 Russian steampunk fantasy adventure film directed by Aleksandr Boguslavsky, and co-produced by Viktor Denisyuk and Yevgeny Melentyev, and the company KinoDanz. The film stars Tinatin Dalakishvili as Abigail Foster, with Eddie Marsan, Gleb Bochkov, Rinal Mukhametov, Artyom Tkachenko, and Ravshana Kurkova.

Abigail was theatrically released in Russia on August 22, 2019 by 20th Century Fox CIS.
Shooting took place in Saint Petersburg, Gatchina, Moscow and in the historical part of Tallinn, Estonia. The images of the fantasy city were created on the basis of ancient buildings and narrow streets of Tallinn and Saint Petersburg, and finalized with the help of computer graphics. Principal photography was completed in Tallinn which was transformed into the streets of the fictional city Fensington, where most of the fairy tale events take place.
Filmmakers of Abigail have developed an original conception of magic and the style of a closed fantastic city that combines steampunk and atmosphere of the early 20th Century. Unique images as well as extraordinary costume designs were created, as shown in the suits of city residents, rebels and their enemies who are mostly inspectors of the Security Division.
The movie incorporates many computer graphics, magical battles, flying airships, and even fully simulated magical characters and objects. Visual effects were created by VFX-studio Kinodanz.
The exclusive materials of the film were presented to the public at the pop culture festival Comic-Con Russia 2018, which was held in Moscow in early October. On November 9, 2018 the first teaser-trailer was released.
Abigail reportedly had a budget of 600 million rubles (around $9.4 million) and has earned $1.94 million after it was shown in 6 countries, namely Lithuania, Turkey, Bolivia, Brazil, Peru, and Russia/CIS where the bulk ($1.7 million) of its earnings came from.
