Norwegian child singer Angelina Jordan performed a beautiful cover of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” during the Finals round of America’s Got Talent: The Champions Season 2 (2020). The AGT judges panel composed of Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Alesha Dixon were all impressed with her definitive performance and unanimously gave her a standing ovation.
“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” is a ballad by musician Elton John and the title track on his 1973 album. The song’s music was composed by John, while the lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin. Its musical style and production was heavily influenced by 1970s soft rock. Released in 1973 as the album’s second single, it was widely praised by critics and entered the Top Ten in both the United Kingdom and the United States, making it one of John’s biggest hits. In the US, it was certified Gold on January 4, 1974 and Platinum on September 13, 1995 by the RIAA.
Angelina Jordan, who’s Heidi Klum’s Golden Buzzer recipient, gave a stunning and original spin on Elton John’s classic hit.
Jordan is a child prodigy, who won the 2014 season of Norway’s Got Talent at age eight, by singing classic jazz standards, including “Gloomy Sunday” and “Fly Me to the Moon”.

Heidi Klum told Angelina, “You make your Golden Buzzer mama so proud.” She said she can feel it up to her bones that Angelina is a superstar in the making. She continued, “The melancholy that you put into that Elton John song was incredible.”
Howie Mandel said that at 13, Angelina is so amazing (Angelina is actually 14). He said one word comes to mind when he listens to Angelina, and that’s “hypnotic”. He said he gets drawn into Angelina’s sound and performance and nothing else matters around him. He said Angelina is truly a champion but reminded her that there are Superfans representing 50 states who could vote for only one winner. He thinks Angelina is worthy of being that one, but they have to wait how the voting will turn out.
Alesha Dixon said Angelina is like an old soul trapped in a young person’s body. He said Angelina’s performance was beautifully delicate and it drew them all in. She said, “We were holding on to every single word that you sang. It was just gorgeous.” Alesha hopes that the Superfans will vote for Angelina because, “I would be voting for you. I think you’re incredible.”
Simon Cowell said he loved it that Angelina took a risk for the night. And he said he will remember her performance for years and years to come because Angelina “did not do what other people would normally be doing in this situation.” She said Angelina took a 40 or 50 year old song and made it sound current, relevant. Simon said Angelina is a very special person. “Great soul, great talent, and you’ve made this final way way better because you set a real standard here. Amazing performance,” Simon concluded.
America’s Got Talent: The Champions (Season 2) is a spin-off of America’s Got Talent (also known as AGT), a televised American talent show competition, created by Simon Cowell. Produced by Fremantle for the NBC TV network, the show first premiered on January 7, 2019. It functions similar to AGT, but involves a variety of participants taken from across both AGT and the Got Talent franchise – including winners, finalists, live round participants and other entries – who compete against each other to secure a place in a grand final, in which the winner receives a cash prize and the title of America’s chosen “World Champion” within Got Talent.
