Acrobatic act Duo Transcend brought everyone up on their feet during the semifinals round of America’s Got Talent: The Champions 2020 (Season 2). The husband and wife team did an elaborate trapeze routine, capping their performance with extreme roller skating.
AGT Champions 2020 judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Alesha Dixon gave the married couple a well-deserved standing ovation.
Howie Mandel said Duo Transcend transformed a circus act into a “full-blown stage show.”
Alesha Dixon said she feels like she’s in the “greatest show on Earth” and said she couldn’t take her eyes off the acrobatic duo and “didn’t want it to end.”
Heidi Klum commented that the combination between the aerial act and the roller skates was “perfection”.
Simon Cowell said there’s always a concern when an act have done a previous great show. “Can you step up into the semi-finals, can you progress?” Then he went on to praise the couple’s performance saying that they were “in control of everything” and that the theme was immaculate.
Act: Trapeze Duo
Got Talent history: (America’s Got Talent) AGT: 13 – Finalist
Result: Advanced to the Finals (Won Superfan Vote)
Duo Transcend (Mary Wolfe-Nielsen and Tyce Nielsen) are married performers from Salt Lake City, Utah, who specialize in duo trapeze, aerial silk, tramp wall, diving, and acting. They have been married for six years and met while performing as high divers in a show. They have a two-year-old son named Jaxx. Tyce has an eye condition that he’s been waiting to get surgery for. According to him, he has “really bad eyesight”. Although his doctors have advised them to discontinue the act, Tyce says “We relied on the feeling and the connection between each other”. During the preliminary round in AGT Champions 2020, Tyce said that an eye surgeon reached out to them and performed a procedure which stopped the progression of his eye disease. He said that as a result of the surgery, he will no longer go completely blind.
The couple’s audition consisted of performing an aerial trapeze routine to RAIGN’s “Wicked Game”. Although Mel B voted “No”, stating she was not “wowed” by Duo Transcend’s performance, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell voted “Yes”, sending the pair to the Judge Cuts. Duo Transcend’s Judge Cuts performance consisted of performing an aerial trapeze routine, now incorporating fire. As the duo attempted to finish their performance with Tyce blindfolding himself, he was unable to catch his partner Mary, causing her to plunge down onto a safety mat on the floor. Fortunately, she was not seriously injured by her fall and was able to stand up on her own. Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell, and guest judge Ken Jeong all gave them standing ovations, although they also advised against the duo’s request to re-execute the unsuccessful part of their act. Their performance was strong enough for the judges to send them to the Quarterfinals along with Aaron Crow.
The acrobatic duo finished in the Bottom 5 of the Top 10 of Season 13 of America’s Got Talent. Following that, they have had the opportunity to travel and share their talent with millions around the world.
Like the rest of the contenders in AGT Champions 2020, Duo Transcend is hoping to win the talent-packed competition.
