Good Trouble is an American drama TV series that is a spin-off of the Freeform show The Fosters. Good Trouble begins with a thirteen-episode first season and follows Callie Adams Foster (Maia Mitchell) and Mariana Adams Foster (Cierra Ramirez), conceptually a few years after the earlier series. In February 2019, Freeform renewed the series for a second season, which premiered on June 18, 2019.
Taking place a few years after the events of The Fosters, Adams Foster siblings Callie and Mariana relocate to Los Angeles to begin the next phase of their lives. As they move into a communal living apartment building called The Coterie, Callie becomes a law clerk working for Judge Wilson while Mariana becomes a software engineer. The two of them navigate their young adult lives while interacting with their neighbors and the people they befriend.
After announcing the ending of The Fosters, Freeform ordered a spin-off series of the show, starring the Adams Foster siblings living in Los Angeles five years after the series finale of the parent show. Principal production on season 1 commenced on June 11, 2018.
On December 10, 2018, it was reported that the California Film Commission had approved $6.6 million of tax credits for a potential second season should Freeform decide to renew the series. On February 5, 2019, the series was renewed for a second season.
On June 11, 2018, Tommy Martinez, Zuri Adele, Sherry Cola, and Roger Bart were cast in regular roles as Gael, Malika, Alice, Judge Wilson respectively. Additionally, Emma Hunton and Ken Kirby were cast in recurring roles as Davia and Benjamin. On November 6, 2019, Shannon Chan-Kent was in a recurring role for the second season.
On review aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes, Good Trouble holds an approval rating of 100% with an average rating of 8.93/10 while on Metacritic, the series got a score of 83 out of 100.
Australian actress and singer Maia Mitchell (age 26), portrays Callie Adams Foster in the series. Mitchell is known for her roles as Brittany Flune in the children’s TV series Mortified, and as Natasha Ham in the teen drama Trapped. She has played the role of Callie since 2013. She has also co-starred with Ross Lynch in the Disney Channel original films Teen Beach Movie (2013) and Teen Beach 2 (2015) as McKenzie.
Cierra Ramírez (age 24) portrays Mariana Foster in Good Trouble. Ramirez is an American actress and singer who made her TV debut when she was 10 years old, performing a song the “Apollo Kids Star of Tomorrow” segment of Showtime at the Apollo. She has performed as the opening act for a number of musical acts, including Earth, Wind & Fire, Chicago and Ruben Studdard. She released her first EP, Discreet, in 2016. Ramirez appeared in the tv series The Suite Life of Zack & Cody and The Secret Life of the American Teenager. She also played the titular role in the 2012 feature film Girl in Progress, for which she won an ALMA Award for Favorite Movie Actress Supporting Role.
