Tayler Green (age 27) from New Jersey sang an amazing cover of “Issues” by American singer and songwriter Julia Michaels during the Blind Auditions round of The Voice 2020 (Season 18).
“Issues” was co-written by Michaels with Justin Tranter and is the debut single from her third EP Nervous System (2017). The song peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and received a Song of the Year nomination at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.
Coach Kelly Clarkson (age 37) turned her chair less than 20 seconds after Tayler started singing. Afer a few seconds, new The Voice coach Nick Jonas (age 27) also turned his chair for Tayler.
Both Clarkson and Jonas fought hard to get Tayler on their team. Nick Jonas focused on him being a teammate and not just as a coach, while Kelly Clarkson focused on vocal techniques and how much she knows Mariah Carey’s (Tayler’s musical icon) songs.
Tayler decided to be part of Team Kelly Clarkson in the end.

John Legend said that he loves it that Tayler’s shoes, hair, and last name are coordinated. He also said he loved Tayler Green’s song choice and how she put some of her own melodies to it which he thought was daring.
Nick Jonas was delighted that Tayler is from his home state New Jersey. Nick commented, “The moment I heard you go to the high notes in this song, I knew you had a spectacular voice and it sounded to me like someone that could win this competition. We could build a good friendship and partnership in this.” He said he wants to be seen as a teammate, not just as a coach. He added that he works with two other brilliant artists every day so if Tayler will allow it, he would love to be her teammate because he believes Tayler can win the competition.
Kelly was saying “I’m losing,” while Nick Jonas talked. Kelly told Tayler, “All that really pretty whispery stuff, that was really, really beautiful.” She said that indicates control. But she said Tayler should not only go for head-voice notes, but also go for big ones, too. She said she can teach Tayler the technique because she grew up singing opera. Kelly said she was just trying to look cool because she thinks Tayler would probably go with Nick. “But I’m just sayin, I swear to God I can make it happen!”
As Tayler was finding it hard to decide, Kelly pushed more saying, “I do know, like all of Mariah’s discography. But it’s fine. Like every riff, every note. No pressure.” Tayler said Mariah Carey is her musical icon.
Finally, Tayler picked Kelly as her Coach for The Voice 2020 (Season 18).
