Lou Dawg (age 23), a surfer from Oahu, Hawaii, sang an original song titled “Feel My Lovin’” during the Auditions round of American Idol 2020 (Season 18).
Although Lou was clueless as to who the American Idol judges were or what songs they’re known for, he managed to get a “Yes” vote from Katy Perry. Judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan gave him “No” votes.
Lou didn’t get a Golden Ticket to Hollywood, but at least for now, he gets to know the name of the American Idol judges.
Lou Dawg doesn’t have any clue who the American Idol judges are and what their popular songs are.. He thought Luke Bryan was Justin Timberlake and that he sang Crying a River and though he got the name of Katy right, he thought she sang Chandelier by Sia. As to Lionel, he said he’s “stumped” but asked later if Lionel did Wheel of Fortune. So when Lou performed, Lionel preferred to just listen with his back turned away from Lou. Eventually, Lionel turned his chair because he seemed pleased with what he heard.
Judges Comments:
Luke Bryan said Lou “almost have something”. But he said he didn’t know if it’s exciting enough to keep people’s attention for a long time. “You’ve really got to be multi-dimensional to go a long way in this competition.”
Katy Perry said Lou’s performance reminded her of a Jack Johnson vibe. She said it’s a real chill, like guitar on the beach after catching a couple of waves. And, “it feels a little bit more of a hobby.”
When Katy and Lionel asked how much Lou wants to be a singer, he said, “You know I, I don’t know what it is. That’s the thing.”
Katy and Lionel said he shouldn’t say that. Katy explained that thousands of people really know what it is and really want it.
When it came to giving their votes, Lionel said he loves Lou but he thinks he should get it together and come back and slay them but for now it’s a “No”. Katy said he defitely needs a lot of work but it would be fun, so she’s saying “Yes”. Luke Bryan said he needs work, so he’s a “No”.
When Lou shook the hands of the judges, they finally introduced themselves to him. And Katy said when he left the room, “Too bad, he’s a dreamboat.”
Lou remained totally cool even in the post-audition interview and even hugged Ryan Seacrest even if he didn’t get a Golden Ticket. He said, “It’s not at the level that they want right now, it’s totally fine.”
American Idol Season 18 premiered at 8PM, February 16, 2020 on ABC television and will air Sundays at 8/7c. Ryan Seacrest continues his role as the show’s host and Bobby Bones returns as the in-house mentor. Despite budget cuts, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie come back as judges for their third season of the series.
