Madison Paige and Peyton Aldridge sang a cover of “Don’t You Wanna Stay” by Kelly Clarkson anad Jason Aldean during the Hollywood Week – Duets round on American Idol 2020 (Season 18).
Peyton and Aldridge had trouble during the rehearsals as Aldridge couldn’t be found. He later confessed he went out to buy Chicken Wings from a gas station. The pair rehearsed with the piano as accompaniment but Peyton later decided he’d rather go with a guitar.
During the performance, Peyton played differently than when they practiced, causing Page to mess up her performance. Lionel Richie described the opening as “pretty much like buckshot” and said it was everywhere. Madison explained that she was fully prepared but the different guitar-playing threw her off.
Peyton apologized and admitted his fault. He said, “I just want to apologize to you, You worked hard and I guess I’ve been rehearsing this all day. Just got in the moment, just lost control… I want to apologize to my family. But I think you all should give her another chance because it wasn’t right and she should get another chance.”
The judges were touched by Peyton’s humility and honesty. Lionel Richie said that Madison and Peyton’s performance was not up to par. But they realize what Madison and Peyton have done in the past and know that the pair are very talented. In the end, the judges decided to let Madison Paige and Peyton Aldridge go through the next level of the competition.

“Don’t You Wanna Stay” is the second single from Jason Aldean’s fourth album My Kinda Party. The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs and at number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
American Idol Season 18 premiered at 8PM, February 16, 2020 on ABC television and will air Sundays and Mondays at 8/7c until the live shows. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, filming of American Idol is temporarily suspended and the production will assess things on a weekly basis.
Ryan Seacrest continues his role as the show’s host and Bobby Bones returns as the in-house mentor. Despite budget cuts, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie come back as judges for their third season of the series.
