Black AF (stylized as #blackAF) is an upcoming American single-camera sitcom created by Kenya Barris and ordered to series by Netflix. It is set to premiere on Netflix on April 17 2020 The title derives from Internet slang, where “AF” is a term of emphasis, meaning “as fuck”.
Netflix ordered #blackAF (originally titled Black Excellence) as the first series under Barris’ deal with it. Announcing the production of the show, Netflix said, “Inspired by Barris’ irreverent, highly flawed, unbelievably honest approach to parenting, relationships, race, and culture, Black Excellence looks to pull the curtain back and reboot the ‘family sitcom’ in a way we’ve never seen before.”
Kenya Barris is an American television writer and producer. Barris was born in Inglewood, California, and is an alumnus of Clark Atlanta University.
Barris has created numerous television shows, including the critically acclaimed Black-ish. The award-winning series has also two spin-offs, Grown-ish and Mixed-ish. He was a writer for The Game and Soul Food. Barris co created and produced America’s Next Top Model with Tyra Banks. He penned the film Girls Trip. He co produced the film of 2019, Little. He co wrote the screenplay for the theatrical release of 2019, Shaft.
In May 2019, it was announced that Barris will make his television acting debut in a series developed by himself and ordered by Netflix. Titled #BlackAF, it will co star Rashida Jones.
