Outlander is a drama TV series based upon author Diana Gabaldon’s historical time travel book series of the same name. The show premiered on August 9, 2014. It stars Caitriona Balfe as Claire Randall, a married former World War II nurse who in 1946 finds herself transported back to Scotland in 1743. There she encounters the dashing Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and becomes embroiled in the Jacobite risings.
Season Five of Outlander will find the Frasers fighting for their family and the home they have forged on Fraser’s Ridge. Jamie must find a way to defend all that he has created in America, and to protect those who look to him for leadership and protection – while hiding his personal relationship with Murtagh Fitzgibbons (Duncan Lacroix), the man whom Governor William Tryon has ordered him to hunt down and kill.
With her family together at last, Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) must use her modern medical knowledge and foresight to prevent them from being ripped apart once again. However, while focusing on protecting others, she risks losing sight of what it means to protect herself.
Starz recently renewed the Outlander series through its sixth and forthcoming season.
Irish actress and former model Caitríona Balfe (age 40) portrays the role of Claire Fraser in the series. She has won two People’s Choice Awards, two Saturn Awards, an Irish Film and Television Award, and also received four Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama for her role in Outlander.
