Ozark is an American crime drama web TV series created by Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams for Netflix and produced by Media Rights Capital.
The first season of ten episodes was released on July 21, 2017 while the second season of ten episodes was released on August 31, 2018. The full third season of 10 episodes is set to be released on March 27, 2020.
Jason Bateman stars as the lead character in Ozark and has also directed four episodes in season 1 and two episodes in season 2.
Bateman plays financial planner Marty Byrde, and Laura Linney plays his wife Wendy, a public relations consultant on political campaigns who became a housewife before the family moved to the Ozarks
Byrde suddenly relocates the family from the Chicago suburb of Naperville to the summer resort community of Osage Beach, Missouri, after a money laundering scheme goes wrong, and he must make amends to a Mexican drug cartel by setting up a bigger laundering operation in the Ozarks. Byrde is tasked to launder $500 million in five years. When the Byrdes arrive in Missouri, they become entangled with local criminals including the Langmores and Snells.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season of Ozark has an approval rating of 70% based on 69 reviews and 76% based on 45 reviews for the second season. On Metacritic, it has a weighted average score of 66 out of 100 based on 29 critics for the first season, and 59 out of 100 based on 14 critics for the second season.
Ozark has received several nominations and bagged two awards at the 2019 Primetime Emmy Awards, namely Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for Jason Bateman and Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Julia Garner. Jason Bateman also won Outstanding performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series at the 2019 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
