Arthur Gunn (age 21) performs a rockin’ take on “I Don’t Want To Be” by Gavin DeGraw during the Finale of American Idol 2020 (Season 18).

Katy Perry said Arthur looked so comfortable and that he has grown so much throughout the competition. She’s proud to be on the show and have Arthur in the Top 5.

Luke Bryan commented “I just love how you connected with the camera and then you kind of went into your own rockstar Jagger kind of world. Great job.”

Lionel Richie said, “You let us into your world, we were just walking around watching you. It was unbelievable and so magical.”

Arthur Gunn, who was born in Nepal but whose family later moved to Wichita, Kansas, ended up as the Runner-up of American Idol Season 18. Just Sam was voted as the winner of American Idol 2020. Finalists or the Top 5 of American Idol 2020 also included Jonny West, Dillon James, and Francisco Martin.

I Don’t Want to Be” is a single from Gavin DeGraw’s 2003 debut album, Chariot. The single became DeGraw’s biggest hit to date, mainly due to the premiere of One Tree Hill, of which the song is the opening theme. The song peaked at number ten in the U.S. in January 2005 and was certified 2x Platinum, having sold over 2,000,000 paid downloads.

American Idol Season 18 premiered at 8PM, February 16, 2020 on ABC television and airs Sundays at 8/7c. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, filming of American Idol was temporarily suspended and contestants were sent home. Production resumed in late April, with all of the contestants performing from their homes.

Ryan Seacrest continues his role as the show’s host and Bobby Bones returns as the in-house mentor. Despite budget cuts, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie come back as judges for their third season of the series.
