Honey (age 14) and Sammy (age 43), a mother and daughter tandem, sang a touching version of “Lost Without You” by Freya Ridings during the Auditions round on Britain’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 14).
Before they sang, Honey said she applied to be on BGT 2020 without her mother’s knowledge but Sammy went along with her idea. Sammy was diagnosed with cancer and the past couple of years had been tough. Honey said to be on BGT with her mum is the best thing that has ever happened to her.
The mother and daughter duo started singing Sara Bereilles’ “She Used to be Mine”. But Simon requested that they sing another piece because he does not like the song. Honey and Sammy came back to perform Freya Ridings’ “Lost Without You”. Their rendition stunned the judges as well as the audience, who were mostly quiet during their performance. Amanda Holden was shown wiping tears from her eyes after Honey and Sammy’s heart-rending duet.
Simon Cowell said that after everything Honey and Sammy have gone through, they deserve that moment. He said he’ll remember their audition for a long time. David Walliams said it was incredibly special and faultless. Alesha Dixon said she loved the connection and that there’s nothing more beautiful than a mother-daughter relationship.
Amanda Holden said “Every single lyric that you got right and sang just seemed so poignant to your story. It was just the most wonderful thing to witness.” Amanda pressed the Golden Buzzer right after she gave her comment. Onstage she told Honey that she reminds her so much of her little girl.

Britain’s Got Talent (aka BGT) is a televised British talent show competition, and part of the global Got Talent franchise created by Simon Cowell. It is hosted by Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (also known as Ant and Dec), and produced by both Thames (formerly Talkback Thames) and Syco Entertainment, distributed by Fremantle, and broadcast on ITV every year. The show premiered on June 9, 2007 following the success of America’s Got Talent the previous year.
Every year, contestants of any age can audition for the contest with whatever talent they wish to demonstrate. Auditionees seek to impress a panel of judges – at present, consisting of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and David Walliams – in order to secure a place in the live rounds of BGT. The winner gets a cash prize and a place within that year’s performances for the Royal Variety Performance before members of the British Royal Family.
On average, Britain’s Got Talent draws 9.9 million viewers per series. A spin-off titled Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, featuring the same judges and hosts, was later produced and broadcast in 2019, following the success of the American edition’s spin-off America’s Got Talent: The Champions. Britain’s Got Talent is contracted to run until 2024.
Britain’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 14) will air in two parts, the first in April 2020 with pre-recorded audition episodes, while the second containing the live rounds to be aired at a later date. The series was split into two parts because of the Covid-19 pandemic or coronavirus outbreak and the resulting lockdown issued by the British government.
