Micah Iverson (age 25) performed “I Will Follow You Into the Dark” by indie rock band Death Cab for Cutie during the Top 9 Performances on the semi-finals of The Voice 2020 (Season 18).
Nick Jonas said he admired the creativeness of Micah and his execution as a vocalist. He said it’s the kind of performance that one would see on awards shows, and which goes viral on Twitter afterwards.
Coach Kelly Clarkson said that Micah is such a good student and is always learning, something which she observed during the rehearsals. She said Micah hears it in his head and executes it exactly as he is asked to, it’s insane. “You are not just a great vocalist, you are an enormously great artist,” Kelly concluded.
Micah Iverson was brought to the semi-finals by the public’s vote. Results of the Top 9 Performances will be announced on May 12, 2020. Five artists will advance to the finale.

“I Will Follow You into the Dark” is the third single from Death Cab for Cutie’s fifth album Plans, released on August 30, 2005. The song peaked at number 28 on the Modern Rock Tracks and number 66 on the UK Singles Chart, but failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. However, the single was certified as gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
Season 18 of The Voice premiered at 8PM on February 24, 2020 on NBC and will air Mondays at 8 PM. John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton returned as coaches for their third, fifth and eighteenth seasons, respectively. Nick Jonas joined the panel as a new coach, replacing Gwen Stefani. Meanwhile, Carson Daly returned for his eighteenth season as host.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, production has done some adjustments. For the first time ever, there will be only three weeks of Live Shows: the Playoffs, the Semi-Final, and the Finale, compared to six weeks of Live Shows in Season 17.
The three weeks of live shows will also air as lives done at each contestant’s and coach’s home.
As to the voting system, the television audience will vote to save their favorite artists and artists who receive the fewest votes will be eligible for the “Instant Save”. America will then save their favorite performer by voting on “The Voice” app (available on iOS and Android) or NBC.com. The artists with the fewest number of votes will be “sent home” or eliminated each week.
