Toneisha Harris (age 44) from Roswell, Georgia performed “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson during the Live Top 17 Performances on The Voice 2020 (Season 18).

John Legend said it’s always a bold move to sing a Kelly Clarkson song on The Voice. “Very few singers have the chops to pull it off in the way that you do,” he said. John thought from the beginning that Toneisha will be in the finale and her performance confirmed this. “You are just a phenomenal singer. Just so impressive,” John concluded.

Kelly Clarkson commented, “If you need a background singer, call me!”

When asked by host Carson Daly on what he could say about Toneisha’s performance, Coach Blake Shelton shouted, “Wooohhh! YES! YES! That’s what I think about it.” Blake said he knows it’s a competition so he just had to say it, “I think that’s the best vocal performance of the night so far. I just think everything about the way you approach singing, you really own the story, the personality, and you have the chops to do it. It was so good sis, congratulations, ” he said.

Toneisha moves on to the next round since Blake chose her to be part of the Top 9 semi-finalists. Blake will be coming into the semi-finals on May 11, with three contenders: Toneisha Harris (Blake’s choice), Todd Tilghman (Public’s vote), and Joanna Serenko (Wild Card winner).

Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” is the titular song from Kelly Clarkson’s fifth studio album, Stronger (2011) and is the second single from said album. The song became Clarkson’s third song to top the Billboard Hot 100 chart and her longest-running number-one single on the chart. It also topped fifteen other Billboard charts. “Stronger” earned three Grammy Award nominations, and a World Music Award nomination.

Season 18 of The Voice premiered at 8PM on February 24, 2020 on NBC and will air Mondays at 8 PM. John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton returned as coaches for their third, fifth and eighteenth seasons, respectively. Nick Jonas joined the panel as a new coach, replacing Gwen Stefani. Meanwhile, Carson Daly returned for his eighteenth season as host.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, production has done some adjustments. For the first time ever, there will be only three weeks of Live Shows: the Playoffs, the Semi-Final, and the Finale. That’s a big drop compared to six weeks of Live Shows in Season 17.

The three weeks of live shows will also air as lives done at each contestant’s and coach’s home.

As to the voting system, the television audience will vote to save their favorite artists and artists who receive the fewest votes will be eligible for the “Instant Save”. America will then save their favorite performer by voting on “The Voice” app (available on iOS and Android) or NBC.com. The artists with the fewest number of votes will be “sent home” or eliminated each week.
