CammWess (age 22) from South Carolina performed “Purple Rain” by Prince during the The Top 5 Performances on the Live Finale of The Voice 2020 (Season 18).
Kelly Clarkson said CammWess has so much confidence and it’s what will make him succeed in the industry. “You’re so gifted,” Kelly concluded.
Nick Jonas said the production value of CammWess’s performance was phenomenal, with the fog machine, and lights going. On top of that he said CammWess delivered an “absolutely credible vocal”. Nick is a huge Prince fan and said CammWess did the song justice.
Coach John Legend said CammWess keeps delivering week after week. He commented, “He is such a soulful, gifted singer but he comes with so much passion as well, so much artistry.” When the Prince estate reached out to him and asked if he can vouch for CammWess, he felt very comfortable in doing so and with CammWess’s rendition, one can see why. “He did a beautiful job with that song and he’s done such a beautiful job throughout this season.”

CammWess Performs Prince’s “Purple Rain” – The Voice Finale Performances 2020
“Purple Rain” is the third single from Prince’s 1984 album of the same name. It peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following Prince’s death in 2016, “Purple Rain” rose to number one on the US and UK iTunes Charts, and re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 reaching number four. The song is ranked ranked number 144 on the Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and is also included in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
Season 18 of The Voice premiered at 8PM on February 24, 2020 on NBC and will air Mondays at 8 PM. John Legend, Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton returned as coaches for their third, fifth and eighteenth seasons, respectively. Nick Jonas joined the panel as a new coach, replacing Gwen Stefani. Meanwhile, Carson Daly returned for his eighteenth season as host.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, production has done some adjustments. For the first time ever, there will only be three weeks of Live Shows: the Playoffs, the Semi-Final, and the Finale.
The three weeks of live shows will also air as lives done at each contestant’s and coach’s home.
As to the voting system, the television audience will vote to save their favorite artists and artists who receive the fewest votes will be eligible for the “Instant Save”. America will then save their favorite performer by voting on “The Voice” app (available on iOS and Android) or NBC.com. The artists with the fewest number of votes will be “sent home” or eliminated each week.
The Voice 2020 is now down to its Top 5 contestants or finalists, namely CammWess, Toneisha Harris, Thunderstorm Artis, Todd Tilghman, and Micah Iverson. The Live Finale Top 5 Results will be aired at 9PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.
