Bill & Ted Face the Music is an American science fiction comedy film directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest, Fun with Dick and Jane, Red 2) and written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon. It is the third film in the Bill & Ted franchise and a sequel to Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991).
In this third installment, middle-aged William “Bill” S. Preston, Esq. and Theodore “Ted” Logan are warned by a visitor from the future of the need for them to create a song in 78 minutes that will save all life on Earth and the entire universe. To complete the task, Bill and Ted work with their families, old friends and famous musicians.
Keanu Reeves (Theodore “Ted” Logan) and Alex Winter (William “Bill” S. Preston) reprise their roles as the title characters and William Sadler reprises his role as Death/Grim Reaper. It is currently slated for release on August 21, 2020.

Bill & Ted Face the Music is produced by David Haring, Scott Kroopf, Alex Lebovici, and Steve Ponce. Orion Pictures & MGM will release Bill & Ted 3: Face the Music in US theaters on August 21, 2020.
In 2010, Keanu Reeves indicated that Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon were working on a script for a third film. On April 24, 2011, Winter tweeted that the script for the third installment had been finished. Dean Parisot was attached to direct by August 2012. But there were difficulties finding a movie distributor to back production. It was only in May 2018 that a distribution deal had been secured and the film was greenlit and finally entered pre-production. Initial production and filming started on June 17, 2019, while cast filming commenced on July 1, 2019. Filming took place mostly in New Orleans during July 2019 and was completed by August 24, 2019.
Reeves gave an update on the film in February 2017 during an interview on The Graham Norton Show saying the story was written and discussed the plot of the film. He revealed that the title will be Bill & Ted Face the Music during the New York City Comic Convention,.
Solomon said that they have had issues getting financing for the film as those they have approached want to see a reboot of Bill & Ted than a sequel, and had also expressed concerns that since the first film was not distributed internationally, there would not be a large audience for third installment.
On March 20, 2019, Winter and Reeves affirmed that the film’s production was ready to start, and that they had secured a release date on August 21, 2020. The film will be produced by Hammerstone Studios and distributed by Orion Pictures under its United Artists banner in the United States.
Winter and Reeves were confirmed to be in the movie once it was greenlit in May 2018. William Sadler was confirmed to be reprising his role as the Grim Reaper. Brigette Lundy-Paine and Samara Weaving will appear as Ted’s daughter Billie Logan and Bill’s daughter Thea Preston, respectively. Kid Cudi was also announced as a cast member for the film as himself. In late June 2019, it was announced that Amy Stoch will be returning as Missy, and Hal Landon, Jr. will be returning as Ted’s father, Captain Logan. Anthony Carrigan was cast as Bill & Ted’s yet-named adversary in the film.
