The Wall of Mexico tells the story of Don (Jackson Rathbone), a handyman hired by the Aristas, a wealthy Mexican-American family with two outrageously decadent daughters. He soon learns tensions are high between the Aristas and the poor white townspeople, and that this has something to do with the Aristas’ well, which Don is asked to guard at night. Don learns the Aristas are selling wellwater at alarming prices. As the water level drops, possibly from theft, the Aristas decide to build a massive wall.
This comedy-drama film is directed by Zachary Cotler and Magdalena Zyzak, the directors of Maya Dardel and When I’m a Moth. The screenplay is written by Zachary Cotler. The film stars Jackson Rathbone, Esai Morales, Marisol Sacramento, Carmela Zumbado, Alex Menses, Mariel Hemingway and Xander Berkley.

The Wall of Mexico premiered at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival in March, 2019, and screened in other festivals since then, including the Nashville Film Festival, the Newport Beach Film Festival, the Haifa International Film Festival, and the American Film Festival. The film was nominated for the Narrative Feature award at the American Film Festival.
Some critics think that The Wall of Mexico is an allegorical response to the Trump administration.
Dark Star Pictures will release The Wall of Mexico in virtual cinemas on September 18, 2020 and On Demand on October 13, 2020.
